Being web-based will allow us to iterate quickly based on user feedback ahead of slower native application development. Beyond the technology, there is a huge usability problem with existing tools like PGP, and enterprise solutions like EMC’s RSA are simply too expensive to see widespread consumer adoption.</p><p style="margin: 0.75em 0px 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'helvetica neue', arial, helvetica, freesans, 'liberation sans', 'numbus sans l', sans-serif; line-height: 20px; font-size: 14px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">Opal aims to be usable and cost effective for critical use cases by presenting familiar interface elements like normal login and registration forms. Without a tool like Opal, small businesses, accountants, banks, IT professionals, journalists, lawyers, and startup engineers often end up sending very sensitive information over insecure channels like email, text messages, zip files with weak passwords (or passwords in the email), or even Dropbox.</p>
