We are seeking an exceptional VP of Engineering to lead and scale our high-performing engineering team at Benepass. This role reports directly to our cofounder and will be instrumental in shaping our technical future.

Core Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead and scale an engineering team of 11 individual contributors across backend, frontend, and customer engineering disciplines.

  • Mentor and develop engineering managers and technical leads while maintaining our high-performance culture.

  • Drive recruitment strategy to build out critical capabilities in SRE/DevOps, Security/GRC, and Data Infrastructure.

Technical Leadership

  • Oversee our technical architecture, including:

    • Python/Django backend systems with core ledger functionality.

    • TypeScript middleware (BEEF) handling REST/GraphQL.

    • React-based web applications and React Native mobile clients.

  • Guide architectural decisions for our complex fintech platform, working closely with the CTO.

  • Manage mission-critical integrations with HRIS, BenAdmin, and Payroll systems.

  • Oversee development of financial systems including ledger, card decisioning, and payment processing.

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with Product, Design, and Operations leadership to define and execute technical roadmap.

  • Drive engineering excellence while maintaining high development velocity.

  • Establish and optimize engineering processes as we scale.

  • Own project execution and delivery with emphasis on quality and reliability.

Requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Strong hands-on engineering background with ability to contribute code.

  • Deep understanding of fintech systems and engineering challenges.

  • Experience with complex data integrations and ETL pipelines.

  • Knowledge of modern web technologies and distributed systems.

Leadership & Management

  • Proven track record scaling engineering teams and organizations.

  • Excellence in recruiting and developing top engineering talent.

  • Strong organizational leadership and communication skills.

  • Experience managing multiple engineering disciplines simultaneously.

Additional Qualifications

  • Background in fintech or related complex technical domains.

  • Track record of successful project delivery at scale.

  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical debt with feature development.

  • High agency and exceptional problem-solving capabilities.

The ideal candidate will combine technical excellence with strong leadership abilities, bringing a proven track record of scaling engineering organizations while maintaining high performance standards and team cohesion.

Compensation

Base salary of $250,000 to $300,000 + equity.

Range(s) is subject to change. Benepass takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including market comparables, interview performance, peer compensation, and years of experience.
