Bloomreach is looking for a Senior Director of Engineering for our Discovery AI- driven Search platform! The work you do will impact much of the ecommerce traffic in US/Europe markets with customers in dozens of different verticals in the e-commerce space.

  • GCP & AWS cloud infrastructure and services: redshift, big query, GCS, S3
  • Databases - Postgres, Redis, SOLR
  • Development languages - Python, Java, JS/Angular/React

What challenge awaits you? 

As the Discovery Senior Engineering Director, you will lead a dynamic engineering team to enhance user experiences through advanced search technologies, personalized recommendations, and data-driven insights. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in artificial intelligence, and machine learning as it applies to information retrieval: commerce search technologies. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of managing large-scale software projects and leading state-of-the-art innovation in artificial intelligence and search.

You will lead the team to utilize insights from big data analysis and develop compelling new innovations using machine learning/AI to improve conversions and revenue on e-commerce customers. You will communicate and inspire the entire company managing up and down.  You will manage the uptime of our systems, and ensure we meet our SLAs. And you are responsible for meeting our aggressive development schedules to keep ahead of the competition. 

Your job will be to:

  1. Leadership and Management:
    1. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
    2. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    3. Develop and execute the engineering product strategy in alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.
  2. Technical Oversight:
    1. Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable and reliable software systems.
    2. Ensure best practices in software development, including code quality, testing, and documentation.
    3. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.
  3. Project Management:
    1. Manage multiple projects and priorities, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
    2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, data science, and operations, to define and deliver on project requirements.
  4. SaaS and E-commerce Expertise:
    1. Our solutions are for a multitude of customers, delivered via our SaaS platforms, this requires understanding how to deliver generic solutions for many use cases.
    2. Optimize system architecture for performance, scalability, and security for many configurations.
  5. Search and Data Science Integration:
    1. Lead initiatives to enhance search capabilities and data-driven decision-making.
    2. Integrate machine learning models and data science techniques into software products.
  6. Stakeholder Communication:
    1. Communicate effectively with executive leadership, stakeholders, and clients.
    2. Present technical concepts and project updates in a clear and concise manner.

You have the following experience and qualities:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Experience:
    1. 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 6 years in a leadership role.
    2. Direct, and proven experience in SaaS, e-commerce, search technologies, data science, and machine learning.
  3. Technical Skills:
    1. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or similar.
    2. Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS and GCP).
    3. Experience with big data technologies and frameworks.
    4. Strong understanding of Machine learning and AI best practices.
  4. Leadership Skills:
    1. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire engineering teams.
    2. Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  5. Communication Skills:
    1. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    2. Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Professional experience

  • Experience in leading high-performing technology teams and aggressively delivering on expectations. 
  • Technology background and skills with the aforementioned technologies (mainly Python and Java)

  • Motivation and willingness to work on big, time-sensitive projects
  • Independence and self-organization to navigate you through ambiguous situations
  • Fluency in English and exceptional communication skills for leading your team
