Job Summary:

The Senior Data Visualization Specialist has a deep understanding of data visualization principles, healthcare data, and a design thinking approach to create intuitive, actionable, and impactful wireframes and visualizations that support data-driven decision-making across various healthcare teams.

The Senior Data Visualization Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and executives, to translate complex healthcare data into clear, compelling, and insightful visual representations using Design Thinking principles in BI/OLAP tools such as Tableau or Looker. The Senior Data Visualization Specialist manages visual content for multiple personas and directly influences strategy, policy and patient care initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Design, develop and deliver visually impactful data visualization wireframes and dashboards that simplify complex healthcare data, ensuring ease of understanding for multiple non-technical stakeholders/user personas.
  • Healthcare Analytics expertise: Leverage healthcare analytics knowledge to present key performance indicators (KPI) trends, patient outcomes, operational efficiencies, and other health metrics in an accessible and meaningful way.
  • Design thinking methodology: Apply design thinking principles to ensure that visualizations are functional and user centric. Work closely with stakeholders to gather feedback, iterate on designs, and refine visualizations to meet business needs.
  • Data Integration: Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analysts to integrate and transform healthcare data into clear visualizations that enhance decision-making.
  • User-Centric Design: Ensure the development of intuitive, aesthetically pleasing and interactive visualizations tailored to different user groups, with a focus on ease of use, accessibility and engagement.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with stakeholders to understand specific needs and design custom visual solutions that solve real- world challenges.
  • Data Storytelling: Use storytelling techniques to transform data into a narrative that conveys insights, trends, and potential actions. Help stakeholders grasp the implications of the data.   
  • Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast of the latest trends and advancements in data visualization tools and technique and healthcare analytics to continually enhance the quality and effectiveness of visual products. Share knowledge with the team to foster a culture of innovation. Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the effectiveness of data visualization.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship, helping to improve skills and knowledge in both healthcare analytics and design thinking and on how to interpret and interact with visualizations.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of all data visualizations, ensuring they align with organizational standards and healthcare compliance requirements.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Design Thinking/Data Visualization, or Healthcare Analytics.
  • 5+ years of progressive, related experience in data visualization and healthcare analytics.
  • Proven track record of designing interactive dashboards, reports and visualizations using tools like Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, d3.js, angular.js, etc. Strong understanding of healthcare data sources, clinical workflows
  • Strong understanding of data analysis principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with data manipulation and transformation using SQL Familiarity with healthcare-specific data structures and standards (E.g.: HL7, FHIR)
  • Demonstrated experience applying design thinking principles to data visualization projects.
  • Strong understanding of user centered design, usability testing, and iterative development processes
  • Strong problem solving, and analytical skills with a focus on translating business and healthcare needs into actionable data insights.
  • Data curiosity, and strong data creation and consolidation skills.
  • Willingness to ask questions about business objectives and the measurement needs for a project workstream. Ability to measure objectives and key results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak to both business and technical teams and translate ideas between them.
  • Strong storytelling ability to present data in a compelling, understandable format.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (ex: Master’s) in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Design Thinking/Data Visualization, or Healthcare Analytics.
  • Relevant Certification in Design Thinking/Data Visualization, Healthcare Analytics (E.g.: Tableau Certified Professional)
  • Experience working with large datasets and databases
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, and data modeling familiarity with programming languages for data manipulation (such as Python, R)
  • Experience with healthcare data
  • Experience with Tableau, Looker
  • Experience with Agile methodologies

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $122,850 - $150,150 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
