Position Summary

As part of its mission to create innovative solutions, Samsung is looking for a talented and motivated individual to join its North America Service Business team as its Senior Content Counsel for Samsung TV Plus.
Samsung TV Plus is Samsung’s free ad-supported streaming service featuring linear channels and VOD, with over 3,000 ad-supported linear channels available across 30 territories and over 630 million active devices. Samsung TV Plus is the #1 free ad-supported app on Samsung Smart TVs and is exclusively available across Samsung TV, Galaxy, Smart Monitor, and Family Hub lineups.
The Senior Content Counsel, TV Plus will provide legal guidance and meaningfully contribute to key business decisions across all aspects of the Samsung TV Plus organization.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, drafting and negotiating contracts for the licensing and distribution of content and technical operation of the platform; helping build effective, business-oriented legal processes that are designed to support scalable growth; supporting a wide variety of global product development/launches; and coordinating with local and global cross-functional stakeholders across Samsung HQ and regional affiliates on policy and standard frameworks.

Role and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Independently draft, review, negotiate and interpret a range of agreements and other legal documents, with particular focus on: (1) licensing of channels and content for distribution via free ad-supported streaming television (FAST), and (2) contracts with software, technology and strategic marketing vendors. 
  • Provide front-line counsel to executives, senior leadership, and the broader organization on various legal and business issues related to TV Plus. 
  • Work collaboratively across the global TV Plus organization to proactively provide legal guidance and manage legal risks while advancing business goals.
  • Ensure the organization’s legal policy and frameworks are in compliance with federal and state law, as well as being appropriate for the execution of the business.
  • Develop and implement improvements to forms and processes.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships, as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Passion for digital media and a genuine curiosity for emerging digital technology
  • Comfortable with an ever-changing landscape and ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent business and legal judgment, as well as a superior ability to assess risk and determine priorities based on that risk assessment and the needs of the business
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and re-prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with domestic and global content licensing, linear and on-demand rights/distribution, and related regulatory matters; up to date on the various licensing structures and processes that are customary in the media industry.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills (both oral and written).  Ability to communicate legal issues in a clear and understandable manner. Inspires trust and confidence through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and escalate matters appropriately to senior members of the team
  • Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctorate degree from a U.S. accredited law school
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in-house or combination of law firm and in-house experience. 
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of California 
  • Comfortable with coast-to-coast travel, as needed

For candidates based in California, the salary range for this role is expected to be between $210,000 and $250,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role
