RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the end-to-end design, analysis, and development of propulsion systems for advanced satellites, ensuring mission requirements are met.
  • Oversee the integration, testing, and qualification of propulsion systems, including hardware-in-the-loop and system-level testing.
  • Develop and implement novel propulsion technologies and architectures to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct performance analysis and simulations of the propulsion system.
  • Drive system-level trade studies to select optimal propulsion technologies based on mission objectives and constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including structures, avionics, and thermal, to ensure seamless integration of propulsion subsystems. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7-10+ years of hands-on experience in the design, development, and testing of spacecraft propulsion systems.
  • Expertise in propulsion system modeling and analysis tools, and the ability to create your own analysis tools.
  • Ability to lead complex engineering projects with multiple stakeholders, meeting deadlines and deliverables. 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with chemical propulsion systems, preferably hypergolic and/or green propellant in-space systems.
  • Knowledge of CAD tools such as SolidWorks for propulsion system design.
  • Hands-on experience with propulsion test setups, including vacuum chamber testing and instrumentation.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance 

COMPENSATION

  • Colorado Base Salary: $125,000-$160,000 for Senior Propulsion Engineer; $155,000-$205,000 for Staff Propulsion Engineer
  • California Base Salary: $130,000-$170,000 for Senior Propulsion Engineer; $160,000-$215,000 for Staff Propulsion Engineer
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave 

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job related knowledge and skills, education, location and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Location—if you are based in the Denver area, this role will be based out of our Gravity Works office. If you are based in the LA area, this role will be onsite in our new Long Beach facility. 
  • Travel—employees can expect to travel up to 25% to the LA factory if you are based in Denver or to our Denver HQ if you are based in LA.
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.
  • Physical demands—the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting and driving.
