This role is completely remote-friendly. If you happen to live close to one of our physical office locations, our doors are open for you to come into the office as often as you'd like.

Ads power Reddit’s business, and the Ads Design team plays a pivotal role in shaping Reddit’s monetization strategy. As we scale, the Platform team is responsible for building stable, reliable, and robust tools that empower advertisers and account managers to efficiently manage ad campaigns at scale. Our goal is to enable seamless interactions between brands and users while driving value for both parties.

As a Principal Product Designer on the Ads UX team, you will shape the strategic vision and lead the design of innovative, intuitive, and high-performance tools that empower advertisers and account managers to create, optimize, and monitor their ad campaigns across Reddit. Your expertise will directly influence the design direction of Reddit’s Ads Manager and guide efforts toward AI-driven automation to help transform our platform into a more intelligent and efficient advertising ecosystem.

You will take ownership of key design initiatives, influencing business-critical areas that impact the way brands connect with Reddit users. This will require visionary strategic thinking, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a deep understanding of the broader advertising ecosystem. You will inspire and mentor other designers while pushing the design quality bar across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Shape the vision: Define the long-term design vision and lead the design strategy of Reddit’s Advertiser Platform, balancing the complexity of advertising needs with simplicity and usability.
  • Drive innovation: Stay ahead of the curve by staying informed about the latest ad technologies, design trends and evolving digital ecosystem. Lead efforts to conceptualize non-obvious initiatives to the Ads Platform, pushing the boundaries of user-centric design and exploring opportunities to differentiate Reddit from competitors.
  • Design leadership: Translate complex ideas into scalable, intuitive design solutions that elevate the user experience for advertisers and account managers at scale.
  • Full lifecycle ownership: Take the lead at every stage of the design lifecycle from ideation to delivery, ensuring high-quality execution that balances innovation with usability.
  • User-centric design: Deeply understand the diverse needs of advertisers across market segments and verticals, and translate insights into intuitive, impactful design solutions.
  • Influence across teams: Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and UX researchers, driving consensus and effectively communicating design ideas to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: Cultivate a culture of learning and growth within the design team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment while developing the next generation of design talent.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of UX/UI design experience, with deep expertise in web and enterprise level designs, particularly in complex systems like advertising platforms.
  • Industry expertise: Significant experience in ad-tech. Even the most seasoned designers and crossfunctional partners at Reddit should learn things from you.
  • Design mastery: A portfolio demonstrating expertise in tackling complex, high-visibility design challenges and an exceptional ability to deliver scalable and impactful solutions.
  • Strategic leadership: Visionary thinking capable of driving strategic design decisions, influencing the product direction, and guiding cross-functional teams through ambiguity to deliver clear, valuable outcomes.
  • Communication: Exceptional storytelling and persuasion abilities, with a track record of compellingly presenting ideas to leadership and driving buy-in at all levels.
  • Mentorship and culture: A demonstrated commitment to mentorship and cultural development, with a history of nurturing talent.
  • Proven impact: A track record of industry-leading work and impactful product launches that have shaped product direction at a company-wide level, backed by quantifiable and qualitative evidence of success.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
