Description
Hybrid or Remote: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Concord, NC, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
The Role
GM Motorsports is seeking an exceptional Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer to enhance our team's capabilities. The role demands a candidate with a profound grasp of multibody vehicle dynamics modeling and a rich background in utilizing Modelica Libraries within Dymola. You will be essential in crafting and corroborating simulation models that will bolster our motorsport endeavors. A deep-seated familiarity with motorsport simulation tools is vital, as this knowledge will be leveraged to drive advancements in our simulation techniques and contribute significantly to our motorsport programs' success. What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain accurate and efficient multibody vehicle models using Modelica Libraries in Dymola for various race series
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to define simulation requirements and validate model results
  • Optimize simulation models for real-time Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) applications
  • Research and implement state-of-the-art techniques in simulation model development
  • Play a key role in the development of GM Motorsports Simulation toolchain

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of motorsport (F1, Sports Car, IndyCar, or NASCAR) or automotive industry experience in multibody vehicle dynamics simulation
  • In-depth understanding of various aspects of vehicle modeling, including suspension kinematics and advanced tire models
  • Expertise in developing accurate and numerically efficient complex multibody vehicle models using Modelica Libraries in Dymola
  • Experience optimizing simulation models for use in real-time Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) simulators.
  • Experience in formulating and solving minimum lap time and quasi-static simulation problems.
  • Knowledge of motorsport simulation tools and their practical applications in high-performance racing environments
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate simulation results into actionable insights for vehicle performance improvement
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact well with others
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules as required by motorsport demands

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Familiarity with FMI standards and the use of FMUs in co-simulation and model exchange scenarios for simulation
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) for managing complex simulation models
  • Demonstrated passion for creating highly accurate, numerically efficient models for motorsports
  • Python or C++ programming experience


Compensation:

  • The expected base compensation for this role is $104,000 - $166,300 USD Annually
  • Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance
