As a Data Engineer II on the Data & Analytics (DA) Team, you will collaborate with engineers, analysts, and data scientists to build robust data systems that support multiple game titles. You'll be instrumental in designing scalable data platforms, ensuring data quality, and delivering insights that drive player experience improvements. You’ll report directly to the Manager of the Data Analytics team and contribute to building title-specific systems, balancing the player experience, and launching data-driven products.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to data engineering best practices, including maintainable code, scalable data architecture, high service quality, monitoring, and clear documentation.
  • Mentor and coach cross-disciplinary teams of data engineers, scientists, and analytics engineers to enhance their technical expertise.
  • Innovate to improve the player experience by providing insights during game outages and optimizing tech spend across teams.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and analysts to build and maintain scalable backend data services.
  • Design reusable data marts and telemetry systems that can be applied to multiple titles.
  • Ensure the security and privacy of player data in all data solutions.
  • Build efficient, scalable systems to address the data needs of Riot’s game development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a data/software engineer, including internships and post-bachelor degrees.
  • Proven experience developing mission-critical data systems from the ground up, including gathering requirements and designing production-ready architectures.
  • Expertise in Python, PySpark, SQL, and tools like Airflow and DBT.
  • Proficiency in cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and Databricks.
  • Mastery of industry-standard tools and frameworks for data systems, data warehouses, and data infrastructure.
  • Experience modeling data in large, complex business environments.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering growth within teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in multiple programming languages (Python preferred, Java, Scala).
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with business analytics or data-related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with data processing tools (e.g., Spark, BigQuery).
  • Worked with orchestration software (Airflow) for scheduling and automation.
  • Knowledge of AWS services for querying and managing data.
  • Experience collaborating with software engineers to create test strategies and plans for data pipelines
