Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

Discord is a voice, video, and text communication app over two hundred million people use it to hang out and play games with their friends. We’re building an outstanding marketing and communications organization to help shape and broaden our brand and appeal to more players.
We are looking for a Creative Director with a design background and deep experience engaging developer audiences to join our Brand Creative team. This role is ideal for a visionary leader who understands how to translate complex technical concepts into visually compelling narratives that resonate with game developers and B2B audiences.

As Creative Director, you’ll lead the creative vision for Discord’s developer marketing initiatives, shaping campaigns, branding, and storytelling that inspire, educate, and engage game developers worldwide. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including marketing, product, social, and partnerships—to drive innovation and ensure creative excellence across all developer-facing touchpoints. This role will report directly to the Head of the Creative Team.

This role is ideal for a visionary creative leader who comprehends game developers and B2B audiences, possesses a robust design background, and is enthusiastic about creating impactful campaigns that bring Discord’s brand to life. 🚀

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Creative Strategy – Develop and execute a compelling creative vision for Discord’s developer marketing efforts, ensuring alignment with broader brand objectives while engaging game developers in fresh, innovative ways
  • Conceptualize & Execute Campaigns – Drive the ideation, design, and execution of high-impact brand and marketing campaigns that resonate with developers and elevate Discord’s presence in the gaming industry
  • Strengthen Brand Identity – Shape and evolve Discord’s brand positioning for game developers, ensuring a consistent and compelling presence across web, video, social, events, and other key touchpoints
  • Foster Collaboration – Work cross-functionally with marketing, product, social, design, and partnerships teams to ensure creative alignment and seamless execution of developer-focused initiatives
  • Creative Leadership – Build, mentor, and inspire a team of multidisciplinary designers and creatives, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and design excellence
  • Work with External Partners – Collaborate with creative agencies, game developers, production teams, and influencers to craft visually stunning, high-impact creative that enhances Discord’s reputation within the gaming ecosystem
  • Data-Driven Creativity – Leverage insights and performance metrics to refine and optimize creative strategies, ensuring maximum impact and engagement
  • Project Ownership – Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring smooth execution, clear prioritization, and alignment with top company objectives.

You’ll Thrive In This Role If you have…

  • 10+ years of experience in design-led creative roles, including 5+ years in leadership, driving brand and campaign strategy
  • Expertise in engaging developer audiences, particularly within the gaming or tech industries, with a strong understanding of their needs, interests, and challenges
  • Proven ability to lead and execute large-scale, multi-channel brand campaigns from concept to completion, delivering measurable impact
  • Strong knowledge of brand identity, storytelling, and visual design principles, with a keen eye for innovation and audience engagement
  • Experience planning, managing, or executing events, particularly within the gaming or developer community
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing relationships with external partners, including advertising agencies, production companies, and influencers
  • Passion for gaming and game development, with a deep appreciation for the creative and technical processes within the developer community
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, combining strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • Proficiency in creative tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma) and experience overseeing the production process
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to transform complex ideas into clear, engaging, and impactful creative strategies.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with or within a game development studio or esports organization

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
