Description

eJam, Inc. is a high-growth consumer products company operating a diversified portfolio of brands across Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), third-party marketplaces (e.g., Amazon), and major retail channels including Walmart, Target, grocery, and other national retailers. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting function, drive operational excellence, and ensure full GAAP compliance across our multi-entity, omnichannel business model.

This role is critical in overseeing subsidiary-level and consolidated financial reporting, managing operational treasury functions (payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable), ensuring tax compliance in collaboration with external CPA firms, and strengthening internal controls. The Controller will also play a key role in supporting annual financial reviews and sell-side M&A activity, including due diligence preparation and financial reporting for prospective buyers.

Salary: $150,000 - $180,000 annually (based on experience)

Location: Santa Ana, California (on-site)

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting Leadership
    • Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team across general ledger, AR, AP, payroll, and financial reporting.
    • Scale the department with specialized roles as needed to support business complexity.
  • Multi-Entity Financial Management
    • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely subsidiary-level and consolidated financial statements.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal policies across all legal entities.
  • Omnichannel Operational Oversight
    • Manage accounting practices tailored to a business selling across DTC, Amazon/marketplaces, and retail channels.
    • Implement and maintain cost accounting and inventory controls that align with omnichannel operations.
  • Operational Treasury
    • Oversee payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes.
    • Support cash management initiatives and partner with FP&A and business units on working capital optimization.
  • Tax Compliance & External Coordination
    • Serve as the primary internal lead for tax compliance.
    • Collaborate with external CPA firms on business tax filings, sales and use tax, and VAT obligations across jurisdictions.
    • Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and audit preparedness related to tax matters.
  • Controls and Process Improvement
    • Design and implement scalable internal controls, accounting policies, and process improvements to support ongoing growth.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, marketing, and supply chain to support business decisions.
  • Financial Governance & Reporting
    • Lead monthly financial close and reporting cycles.
    • Present financial results and insights during monthly reviews and quarterly compliance meetings to the CFO and executive leadership.
Requirements
  • CPA certification or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or director-level role within a mid to large-sized omnichannel consumer products company.
  • Proven expertise in multi-entity accounting, consolidated financial reporting, and GAAP compliance.
  • Strong understanding of omnichannel operations and the accounting nuances of DTC, marketplace, and retail distribution.
  • Experience overseeing operational treasury functions (AR, AP, payroll) and supporting cash flow management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with external CPA firms on business tax, sales & use tax, and international VAT.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Mandarin proficiency preferred due to supplier and operational interfaces.
