Job Description

Clerk is a globally-distributed team dedicated to providing a best-in-class developer experience, with obsessive attention to every detail. Today, we provide developers with React components like , , and . These components allow developers to drop authentication and user management into their applications. We believe that a component is worth a thousand APIs.

What you will do

As a Content Engineer, you will create high-quality, search-optimized content for the Clerk docs that drives developer awareness and adoption. Combining your engineering expertise with strong technical writing skills, you'll build our organic presence through various forms of content. In this role, you will focus on:

  • Creating developer-first content that converts: Write engaging, technically accurate content that helps developers understand and implement Clerk. This includes SEO-optimized how-to guides and tutorials that showcase real-world applications of Clerk’s components.

  • Building interactive demonstrations: Develop working code examples and interactive demos that accompany blog posts, allowing developers to see Clerk's features in action. This includes maintaining technical accuracy while ensuring content is accessible to developers of varying experience levels.

  • Contributing to content strategy: Research and identify high-impact technical topics that resonate with our developer audience, ensuring that our content serves the developer journey from exploration to implementation.

  • Collaborating across teams: Work closely with product, design, and growth teams to align content with product updates, technical insights, and growth initiatives.

Who you are

  • You code and write: You have strong frontend development experience, particularly with React and Next.js, combined with a proven track record of creating engaging technical content. Your portfolio demonstrates clear, accessible explanations of complex concepts.

  • You understand developers: You have experience writing for developer audiences and understand their needs, challenges, and how they consume content. You can break down complex technical concepts into understandable components while maintaining technical depth.

  • You have a high quality bar: You recognize that, while it is important to work efficiently and quickly ship content, the purpose of doing so is to build Clerk’s reputation as well as your own. This means that you refuse to publish anything that isn’t a polished explanation of the point you’re making.

  • You're data-informed: You use metrics and community feedback to guide content decisions while maintaining high standards for technical accuracy and depth. You understand SEO principles and how to optimize technical content for search visibility.

  • You're self-directed: You can manage a content pipeline independently, prioritize effectively, and collaborate with a remote team. You're proactive in identifying valuable content opportunities and following through from ideation to publication.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
