Responsible for leading and guiding the day-to-day operations of the web development team ensuring web development deliverables meet or exceed the expectations of partners’ both individual team members and senior management.  Works collaboratively with various members of the marketing and IT departments including web designers, front-end developers, digital marketing specialists, assigned marketing partners, Linux administrators and database administrators, as it relates to performance and architecture of web properties. Leads a high-performance web development team to execute on strategies for web enhancements resulting in improved user experiences, increased rankings and overall implementation of web marketing plans which support partners’ total marketing strategy.  

What you will do:

  • Leads, oversees and builds capability of web development team, ensures quality of work as it relates to deliverables, core functionality and project scope.

  • Oversees execution of web development and design projects and deliverables while ensuring clear communication and quality deliverables are provided to appropriate parties and internal cross-functional teams.

  • Responsible for development and design of all marketing web systems with a meticulous focus on maintainability, scalability and performance.

  • Embraces change and strongly supports the idea and concept of continuous, life-time learning where it relates to web functionality and performance while instilling this focus and drive across direct reports.

  • Embraces forward thinking, cutting edge solutions through modeling concepts in solution design and development meetings

  • Develops strategies and action plans to move web development practices and use of technology to the forefront of the industry

  • Ability to think outside of the box and beyond immediate higher education industry and identify opportunities to bring new technologies and solutions to the department

  • Collaborates cross-departmentally with IT development and technology teams in development and maintenance of new and existing web services which includes case analysis, object modeling and database/website schema.

  • Primary liaison with IT resources to ensure continual operation and optimization of the marketing production environments.

  • Shared responsibility with other marketing management to optimize all aspects of marketing websites

  • Able to operate effectively in a professional software engineering environment with source control, dev/stage/production release cycles, continuous integration and deployment as required on complex and high volume of projects

  • Develops and reviews operational procedures and documentation to ensure technical projects are delivered according to best practice project management standards ensuring timely and quality delivery.

  • Provides technical architecture leadership in relation to new project discovery, design, development, and deployment.

  • Holds operational team meetings to review projects, which include, process review, security review, code review, etc.

  • Facilitates internal communications across the University as related to project efforts.

  • Holds web management team to performance metrics

  • Drives innovation in thought and deliverables to provide “cutting edge” web delivery services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages staff with responsibility and accountability for team performance and results; coaches, counsels, mentors, appraises performance and makes employment decisions.

  • Develops a culture of high energy, highly collaborative teamwork through regular and consistent information/communication sessions.

  • Coaches managers in ability to identify performance issues and take corrective action and provide appropriate mentoring to motivate team members to establish a high performance team.

  • Consistently holds team meetings and individual one-on-one meetings

  • Establishes standardizations and operational policies across the development team

  • Provides annual assessments on team performance

What you will need:

  • Advanced knowledge of web technology and best practices.

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe creative suite.

  • Advanced knowledge of development tools such as IDE’s, source control, continuous integration, continuous deployment with the ability to apply these tools to the development process.

  • Advanced knowledge of development techniques and how they apply to the overall software development lifecycle.

  • Ability to pick up new interfaces, languages, and technologies quickly, and apply them to current and future projects.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of architectural patterns and principals used to build complex web and mobile applications.

  • Solid understanding of the web design and development process.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of browser internals and how back-end, and front-end code impact overall performance.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of search engine optimization and accessibility requirements and standards.

  • Strong team player; able to facilitate and participate in project/department meetings through initiating ideas, problem solving techniques and providing sound feedback to assist the delivery of quality work.

  • Ability to incorporate the latest web design trends and technology into projects to ensure projects

  • Good understanding of major operating systems

  • In-depth knowledge of internet protocols and applications

  • Ability to develop programming/scripting code (PHP, MySQL)

  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks, e.g., JQuery, JSON, AJAX.

  • Ability to multi-task and possesses strong time management and organizational skills

  • Effective project management skills

  • Ability to analyze and document complex business processes

  • Ability to think analytically

  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (computer science, information technology, etc.) from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience building web applications.

  • The following experience may be substituted for education requirements:

  • 4 years’ work experience building web applications with an unrelated bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • 4 years’ work experience building web applications with an associate degree from an accredited institution.

  • 5+ years’ experience using PHP and MySQL to build dynamic websites or web applications.

  • 3+ years of experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build dynamic websites or web applications.

  • 3+ years of experience with React, Angular or Vue.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Drupal.

  • 2+ years of experience with Symfony or Laravel frameworks.

  • 2+ years of experience working on a team using agile methodologies.

  • 2+ years of experience working on a team utilizing GIT for source code management.

  • Preferred 2+ years of experience working with Wordpress.

  • Minimum of 2 years leading and developing high-performance teams
