Being an Actuarial Analyst at Juniper Re

At Juniper Re, our actuarial team plays a critical role in driving successful reinsurance transactions along-side our extremely talented brokers. Our actuaries are the analytical minds using data and insights to manage risk, optimize reinsurance structures, and provide strategic insights for our clients to be successful.

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our dynamic reinsurance team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early actuarial career professionals to gain valuable experience working in a professional environment with experienced actuaries. The successful candidate will provide critical actuarial support in pricing of reinsurance treaties and risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Brainstorm innovative ways to improve process efficiency and transform Excel based actuarial models to cloud-based technology.
  • Work closely with Head of Actuarial to execute on all innovation efforts to support Juniper Re’s analytics strategies.
  • Build pipelines for data cleaning, and data transformation while ensuring good code quality.
  • Design, develop, test, improve, and document actuarial and analytics models, tools, and templates.
  • Support maintenance of actuarial models, tools, and templates.
  • Assist in gathering, organizing, and analyzing client data for use in actuarial analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation and updating presentations and reports for clients and internal stakeholders, explaining technical concepts in accessible terms.
  • Support development of market submission exhibits.
  • Assist in ad hoc analysis and reports that support clients informed decision-making.
  • Support research and maintenance of industry information utilized within the actuarial department.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including cat modeling and brokerage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Actively pursuing actuarial credentials, preferably with Casualty Actuarial Society or equivalent (e.g., ACAS, FCAS, or equivalent).
  • 2-5 years of experience, preferably experience within the reinsurance, actuarial consulting, or insurance industry.

Capabilities & Experience

  • Experience with reinsurance pricing is a strong advantage.
  • Recent working knowledge of Python. Knowledge of other coding languages and data management/warehousing is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts and apply them to improve work processes and outcomes.
  • Quick and eager student of new technologies as and when they are needed.

Designations and Associations

Juniper Re will pay for course materials and exams / certifications for any relevant designations, including Casualty Actuarial Society credentials, Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), etc.
