From groceries, to home cleaning, to a late-night dinner, it is easier than ever to get on-demand services simply by using your smart phone. Mobile applications continue to evolve and are changing the delivery service model in the process. The latest product being made available right to your door is alcohol, and LA is seeing a surge in the number of mobile apps delivering booze in the city.

“Alcohol is one of the largest, oldest industries in the world and it has been almost completely untouched by technology,” said Chris Vaughn, CEO and founder of Saucey, one of LA's newest alcohol delivery apps.

Having booze delivered to your doorstep is something many people have thought about at one time or another, but Vaughn and his team took charge to execute the idea in a way that focuses on creating a premium customer experience. Saucey employs a fleet of its own drivers to perform all pickups and deliveries. The app is built on a platform that handles the dispatching, delivery and logistics of all orders, unlike many of its competitors who simply route orders to a third-party for delivery.

“We work with local liquor stores and businesses so that when a customer presses a button the order is routed directly to a local store. Then we dispatch our closest driver to bring it to the customer on behalf of the store,” Vaughn said. “You aren’t just ordering booze to your door, you’re ordering an experience.” Saucey enhances the delivery experiences by paying attention to detail, like hiring local drivers (who are thoroughly background checked), delivering orders in custom Saucey bags and decorating them with vintage bottles tags.

Mobile apps like Uber and Instacart have opened the door to applying an on-demand type business model to various industries and alcohol delivery seems to be the latest trend. As convenient as it may be to have drinks delivered in less than 40 minutes, Vaughn also attributes the growing popularity of these services to the benefits they bring to the community.

“The real value is helping to create economies out there. We provide additional revenues to local small businesses and provide income to an on-demand force that wants to work on their own schedule and make their own hours,” Vaughn said.

Even with an increase in the number of companies entering the alcohol delivery app space, Saucey’s business model and infrastructure sets it apart. But in order to maintain its position in the market and meet the demand for its services, Vaughn explains that Saucey will soon move into additional cities and markets. “We are working fast to make sure we cover all of the metropolitan areas in the city and further city expansion is planned from there,” he said.

As the popularity of on-demand services through mobile apps continues to grow, especially in the alcohol industry, Saucey remains committed to providing an exceptional user experience. “It’s just cool: who doesn't want to have drinks brought to them at the push of a button?” Vaugh said.
