By now we have all seen or used one of the many different (or very similar) dating/social apps. Swipe left, swipe right, try to keep a potential romantic partner interested through pictures and witty repartee in the hopes of maybe one day seeing him/her offline. We do this over and over again with no guarantee that we are ever going to actually meet the person on the other end of the phone. In a city full of interesting people and places, why is it so hard to actually date?
In my experience, once I swipe right and match with someone, I immediately either connect with them through the phone and it fizzles out over two weeks, or we continue talking and make plans to meet up that never come to fruition. We spend so much time “talking” over text and through apps, that we never actually make time to meet each other in person. We are constantly canceling plans and flaking out on our friends or potential dates. I was tired of the disconnect.

As a Los Angeles neophyte, I found myself overwhelmed by how many trendy bars, locations and restaurants there were to hang out in and meet new people. One night, I was out with friends at a bar and we realized it was dead, despite being highly-recommended. As I was feverishly (and fruitlessly) Googling and Yelping in hopes of finding an alternate venue, I realized there was a huge hole in the market. There wasn’t a single centralized app or service I could reference in order to locate happening hotspots/events with the hopes of meeting like-minded individuals. That experience planted the seed for Doppler Social App.
