The Great Migration may seem like old news, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the job market has settled.

A survey of U.S. workers conducted by consulting firm Robert Half saw 46 percent of respondents state they were likely to make a career move in 2023 in search of higher pay, better benefits and more flexible work arrangements.

Among the reasons employees said they would be deterred from a potential workplace, unclear or unreasonable job responsibilities and misalignments between company culture and values were two of the main concerns.

For companies that satisfy job seekers’ desire for unique, noteworthy benefits, competitive compensation and strong company culture, the continued shifts in the job market present an opportunity to secure top talent.

PureSpectrum and Collectors are attracting top talent in 2023 through feedback-driven offerings that meet the evolving needs and expectations of their team members.

What is one thing that truly sets Collectors apart as an employer of choice?

Collectors is a place where employees really embody our mission and values. Whether you are a collector or simply care deeply about creating and delivering the best user experience for our customers, the passion for what we do and the emphasis on excellence put into it stood out to me as I considered joining the team.

Collectors has a unique value proposition in that we are early enough in our journey that there is a lot of runway to shape the industry, but we also have strong leadership and resources. We recently entered a stage of massive change and transition as we expanded the business and doubled in size. Joining a company where leadership understands the importance of redefining itself through innovation and people is one of the many reasons why we are an employer of choice.

What other efforts or offerings have helped you attract top talent recently?

Our people are our strongest asset. Our leadership team is comprised of a mix of backgrounds across technology, startup, national and global operations companies, but what they all have in common is how much they value and want to invest in their people. Our leaders are heavily invested in being thoughtful about the talent we need to evolve us into our next phase of growth and getting the employment offering right so the packages are competitive and employees have the tools and paths to grow their careers with us.

By listening to our employees, we were able to evolve our people programs, including implementing a flexible vacation policy for salaried positions, rolling out a new parental leave program and ensuring our offer packages are competitive in the market through benchmarking and regularly iterating to stay one step ahead. We also offer perks like grading discounts that allow employees who are also collectors to be their own customers.

The pandemic has led many professionals to reconsider what they want from a job, and where and how they want to work. How has Collectors adapted to the shifting wants and needs of your employees — and future employees — over the last year? And what steps have you taken to create a workplace that meets those needs?

Collectors provides flexibility for certain teams and functions to operate in a hybrid or remote model. While some teams work on-site to run our grading and authenticating operations, we provide scheduling flexibility so they can create their own work-life balance. We also opened up a brand new office space where on-site employees can enjoy comfortable common areas and our on-site food truck. This is something that was implemented during the pandemic and that we continue to provide for positions that are eligible.

What other efforts or offerings have helped you attract top talent recently?

We have made a conscious effort to increase our brand awareness in our local communities where we have groups of employees. We have expanded shared working spaces in Rochester, New York, to bring more people into an office, as well as our grown headquarters in Westlake Village, CA. We have built relationships with local universities and partnered with marketing and recruiting classes to speak to and invite students to our HQ. Our intern program was created as a way to introduce PureSpectrum to upcoming and new grads and continue growing the next generation of market researchers. We also sponsored the Agoura Hills Great Race Half Marathon and consistently encourage our team to A.B.R. — Always Be Recruiting.

How has PureSpectrum adapted to the shifting wants and needs of your employees — and future employees — over the last year? And what steps have you taken to create a workplace that meets those needs?

As we began returning to the office after the pandemic, we asked our team what was important to them and what obstacles they faced returning to the office. This led us to create our 50 percent hybrid policy, giving our team the flexibility to come in when they want and how it best works for them, as long as it is 50 percent of the time. Many people adopted animals during the pandemic, so we created a pet-friendly office policy. Our office is outfitted with toys, beds and treats for our furry friends to enjoy.

The pandemic also had a substantial impact on the health and well-being of the workforce. PureSpectrum took a step back to think of ways we could support the well-being of our people. We partnered with a private gym near our headquarters and offered group workout sessions during office hours. This gave our employees an opportunity to disconnect from work and enjoy a fun yoga or lifting class with other team members. Our remote employees are provided a wellness stipend to use for gym memberships, nutrition services or however they feel it helps their well-being. By assessing the needs of our team, we were able to give them the autonomy to create the best work environment for their lives.
