Vast is looking for a Senior Hardware Development Technician, reporting to the Staff Hardware Development Engineer, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations and the Haven Demo Satellite. This will be a full-time, non-exempt position located at our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work alongside engineers to build, test, and maintain mechanical, fluid, and electrical systems
  • Work on test fixtures to perform various, potentially hazardous, operations increasing hardware fidelity
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems
  • Ability to conduct test operations in the field for extended period of time
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy machinery (Forklift, All-terrain Forklift, overhead equipment, etc.)
  • Implement continuous improvements to increase safety and test site productivity 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 7+ years of experience working in a production, mechanical, or manufacturing environment 

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Extended knowledge of fabrication of mechanical, fluid, and electrical systems
  • Read & Understand Plumbing and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Experience building and testing high pressure fluid/gas systems
  • Knowledge of electrical hookup and debugging steps
  • Extensive experience of best safety practices around mechanical, fluid, and electrical systems

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Travel to Mojave for up to 10% as needed.
  • Provide campus wide reporting on departmental spend, ticketing, and other metrics as requested
  • Maintain contracts for facilities services such as elevators, cranes, waste and recycling, pest control, landscaping, and other repair services to name a few
  • Obtain multiple bids from competing contractors by creating scopes of work
  • Perform job walk-downs with vendors, engineers, supervisors, and managers
  • Work with the purchasing department to ensure vendors are approved, vetted and insured
  • Assist with badges, International Traffic Arms Regulations (ITAR) and non-disclosure agreement (NDA) requirements, and safety training
  • Create request for payments and assists the buyers with vendor selection
  • Ensure purchase orders are accurate with no cost overruns
  • Coordination to meet with the Vast end user and establish the scope of work

Salary Range: California

$40$50 USD
