Vast is looking for a(n) NDE UT Level III, PAUT Specialist, reporting to the Supervisor of NDE, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. Use this space to describe the role and sell the candidate on the cool stuff they would get to work on. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

The NDE Operations organization at Vast is an inclusive, interdisciplinary team committed to providing high-quality inspections of flight components and production assemblies. The breadth of exposure as an Ultrasonic (UT) Level III PAUT Specialist is immense, as the organization is responsible for a wide variety of inspection types across our space programs. The candidate must have the ability to engage with the process to provide continuous improvement and contribute to a future where people are living and thriving in space.

Responsibilities: 

  • Interpret, evaluate, communicate and report findings to production & engineering teams Interpret and review engineering drawings.
  • Full responsibility of PAUT inspection techniques for complex geometries/weldments.
  • Support research and development of future UT technology for operational improvements.
  • Spearhead training and developing others within the team.
  • Engage with the process and provide continuous improvements on the mission to make humanity interplanetary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Ultrasonic level III certification inline with ASNT-TC-1A/NAS-410 guidance in ultrasonic testing (UT), including phased array ultrasonic (PAUT)

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a level II NDE/NDT inspector.
  • Knowledge of basic Standards such as; AS, AMS, AWS, NAS-410, ASME, ASTM.
  • Operational experience utilizing phased array systems for the inspection of weldments.
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD-5009.
  • Operational experience of utilizing PAUT systems for the inspection of weldments and integration with automated systems.
  • Knowledge of Tomoview and other PAUT software.
  • Hands on experience using portable digital equipment such as Omniscan X3, Veo 3 ect.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of complex alloys and proficiency in Ultrasonic (UT) inspection techniques.y

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted

Salary Range: California

$125,000$160,000 USD
