Cost Accounting Manager - Key Responsibilities 

The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for the inventory operational accounting. This includes supporting operations staff in reviewing, analyzing and reporting on inventory valuation, inventory transactions, direct and indirect labor, direct material and subcontract costs, and other overhead costs incurred in the operating segments. The Cost Accounting Manager provides financial analysis, cost model management, analysis on changes that affect prices and profitability of products and assists with month-end closing and reporting.

  Accounting and Financial Reporting

  •  Maintain standard material, labor and overhead costs
  •  Prepare journal entries and reconcile inventories to balance sheet
  •  Review and adjust inventory reserves in accordance with accounting policies
  •  Analyze gross margin, other cost of sales, inventory trends and turnover ratios, and production yield data
  •  Prepare audit schedules and footnote disclosures
  •  Support business unit and manufacturing groups with cost, mfg, and inventory analysis
  •  Assist in complying with Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and internal control requirements
  •  Work with Manufacturing to plan and conduct physical inventories
  •  Reconcile physical inventories to Mesa/SAP systems for applicable locations
  •  Validate income statement results by performing detailed analysis of Cost of Sales and any related Operating Expenses within functional areas
  •  Support Product, or Line of Business, margin analysis by reviewing, correcting and reconciling transactions that drive detailed income statement reporting. Reconciliation involves detailed analysis of business activity by account, profit center and line of business.
  •  Support the analysis of variance incurred during production and purchasing activities by comparing the basis for standard cost
  •  Ensure timely completion of month-end process for settlement of production orders
  •  Perform allocations on a monthly basis and ensure the results correctly reflect allocation logic
  •  Ensure the timely update to Activity Type rates (direct labor and engineering labor rates)
  •  Support the process of updating standard costs

Inventory Accounting and Control Reporting and Analysis Business Process Education and Experience 

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance
  •  CPA preferred
  • 5+ years in Accounting in a Manufacturing and R&D company.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in Cost Accounting required
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, PowerPoint and e-mail required with advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with Integrating multi mainframe systems with excel models and reporting
  • Experience with various report writers that integrate with Excel
  • Experience working with Great Plains preferred, but not required
  • System Maintenance and Development
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
